Hi, everyone!
Good morning, and happy Monday! We hope everyone had a spooky (and safe) Halloween! With the daily influx of terrible news, it is crucial to celebrate the good with your community and build connection. That being said, with all of the celebration, it is also important to keep sight of the end goal and those who can't celebrate. Whether you are interested in leading a Know-Your-Rights training for tenants facing eviction or just want to learn more about tenant housing law, make sure to join us THIS THURSDAY at 1 pm in room 101 for an informative training!
Want to stay involved? Join us this week at City Life/Vida Urbana for their weekly tenant organizing meetings! City Life is a 50+ year-old grassroots organization fighting for racial, social, and economic justice through direct action, coalition building, education, and advocacy. They hold meetings every Tuesday (in English) in Jamaica Plain and every Wednesday (in Spanish) in East Boston to build community and inform people about their housing rights!
Every Tuesday in Jamaica Plain, HOMES holds a 'Know Your Rights' training for tenants who have recently received a Notice to Quit, marking the first step in the legal eviction process. Speak Spanish? HOMES is starting a new initiative to provide translation services to legal aid attorneys at CL/VU's Wednesday night meetings in East Boston. Message us to find out more!
If you'd like to attend a meeting with HOMES members, please complete the Google form below. Let us know if you have any questions or transportation concerns, and we will be happy to help! The BU Public Interest Law Society pro bono transportation reimbursement form can be found here.
LEARN TO LEAD EVICTION NOTICE "KNOW-YOUR-RIGHTS" TRAININGS
Whether you are interested in leading a Know-Your-Rights training for tenants facing eviction or just want to learn more about tenant housing law, make sure to join us THIS THURSDAY at 1 pm in room 101 for an informative training! Tenants across Boston receive Notices to Quit every day, which are essentially letters informing them they must leave their homes by a specific date. But in reality, a Notice to Quit does not mean tenants have to move out. In fact, tenants have legal rights that protect them and give them more time in their home. By spreading knowledge, we empower tenants and help build housing justice from the ground up. You’ll learn how to lead Know Your Rights workshops for tenants who’ve received a Notice to Quit—explaining their rights, the eviction process, the steps they can take to stay safely housed, and how they can get involved in the larger housing movement. Together, we can fight displacement and gentrification in our communities. Register here!

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PEOPLE BENEFITS: THROUGH REIMAGINING COMMUNITIES
"WE ARE STEPPING UP TO REPLACE COMMUNITY MEMBERS’ SNAP IN NOVEMBER. Apply for support or contribute to this effort here: tinyurl.com/eatp25 - and please continue to use our free pantry! In this moment we see our state and federal Government forcing our families further into poverty and then criminalizing people for surviving. The system was designed to fail us. But we got us and we will continue to build with our people until we all have what we need to thrive. Check out the link for an opportunity to contact our Governor and say INVEST IN COMMUNITIES NOT PRISON CONSTRUCTION!!!!!!!!!" Click here for more information!
