From: Student Affairs Date: June 20, 2025 Subject: On the Docket - 6/20/25
Dear students,
As promised, we're sending you On the Docket monthly this summer. We were excited to send good wishes in celebration of Juneteenth yesterday, Pride all month and the fun challenges that come with putting your studies into practice in your summer work. While we continue to celebrate all of those things and many other little joys, we also want to acknowledge that the latest Supreme Court decision to uphold state bans on gender affirming care for youth, immediately followed by the announcement that the National Suicide Hotline (988) will no longer provide specialized support to LGBTQIA+ callers, may be causing extra anger, fear and sadness for many of us. We are taking comfort in knowing that BU, BU Law and Massachusetts remain committed to supporting the health of our whole community, including our LGBTQIA+ community. Here are some of the resources available to support your physical and mental health:
Student Health Services is the on campus health center for all Boston University students, regardless of your insurance. They are committed to providing high quality healthcare, inclusive of people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions. This includes gender affirming care on campus and referrals to experts in the community.
Behavioral Medicine - soon to be Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) - provides mental health care, including 24-7 emergency response. They also offer groups and workshops.
SARP(soon to be Survivor Advocacy, Response and Prevention) - For those seeking support for trauma, SARP is an additional resource to support your mental health.
Massachusetts Trans Political Coalition (MTPC): is committed to building broad-based community power across Massachusetts by supporting leaders, coalitions, and inclusive participation. Grounded in shared history and community voices—from elders to youth—MTPC strives to evolve thoughtfully and stay accountable to the communities it serves. You can learn more about their gender-affirming care and advocacy programs in the hyperlink above.
We also take great comfort in knowing that even when our legal system generates decisions that may not reflect our values, there are lawyers ready and able to respond. Continuing to invest in your own well-being, education and legal experience is one of the best things you can do now so that you can join those fights later.
Student Affairs remains available to you this summer! For any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to any one of us. Our contact information is at the bottom of the newsletter. We look forward to welcoming you back to campus in August!

ALL: Student Health Services Department Name Changes as of July 1.
Behavioral Medicine will be renamed Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)—a name and acronym widely recognized across higher education for mental health centers.
Sexual Assault Response & Prevention will become Survivor Advocacy, Response & Prevention (SARP) to better reflect that SARP services support all students who have experienced a traumatic event, not just those affected by sexual violence.
These updates will align with the launch of a new SHS website coming this July! All BU students are able to access all resources at Student Health Services resources regardless of your health insurance provider.
