Your Wellbeing: Physical Wellbeing & Community Engagement Resources

Below is the continuation of the weekly series from the Student Affairs team on resources to support you across multiple dimensions of your wellbeing, including: core needs, emotional wellbeing, physical wellbeing, intellectual/occupational wellbeing, spiritual wellbeing, and social wellbeing. This week we will focus on physical wellbeing and community engagement resources.

  1. FitRec – There are a lot of options at FitRec to build on your wellbeing, including semester-long courses (PDPs). Students have a free membership and access to fitness and aquatics facilities, as well as more organized programs.
  2. Intramurals: Form a team or put yourself on the free agent list for a variety of intramural sports. Note: spring registration opens in January, but there are still fall opportunities like the 5-on-5 basketball tournament.
  3. “PDPs”: Registered full-time (undergrad and graduate) BU students can sign up for one FREE physical education class per semester. Check back on this webpage for spring registration dates. Note: these are FREE, and students must attend 75% of the total classes. There are also a number of options for classes and certifications offered by FitRec.
  4. Check out BU Law student clubs: Connect with BU Law student organizations that give you an excuse to get moving, including Run Club and Softball, and look for other student orgs who plan the occasional event in support of members’ physical wellbeing.
  5. Park Fitness Series - The Boston Parks Fitness Series offers free fitness programming in Boston parks. Join for both in-person and virtual classes led by certified fitness instructors.
  1. Register to Vote in Boston. The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming municipal elections in Boston is tomorrow, Saturday, October 25.
  2. Already registered in Massachusetts? Check your voting location before the next election.
  3. Volunteer to be a poll worker. The City of Boston is always looking for volunteers to be poll workers. Learn more here: https://www.boston.gov/departments/election/how-apply-become-poll-worker.
  4. Check out other ways to get involved with the City of Boston
  5. Boston Cares - Boston Cares is the largest volunteer agency in New England! They offer all types of volunteer work you can choose from. Check out their expansive calendar and make an impact.
  6. Cradles to Crayons - Cradles to Crayons works to fight Children’s Clothing Insecurity directly in Chicagoland, Massachusetts, Greater Philadelphia, NYC, and the San Francisco Bay Area, and focuses on raising awareness about this urgent crisis nationally. Sign up for a shift individually or with a group!
  7. Greater Boston Food Bank - GBFB is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Sign up for a shift individually or with a group!
