ALL: Faculty in the Media. Your faculty are staying busy outside the classroom. Here are some highlights from the past couple weeks:
Making an effort to include gratitude in everyday life can have a long-lasting positive impact. Robert Emmons, a thankfulness researcher, showed that gratitude significantly boosts pleasure and lessens depression in his numerous studies on the relationship between gratitude and wellbeing. Multiple studies have shown people who often express appreciation have neuroplastic changes in their brains that endure a lifetime. When we are continually grateful, our mindset and brains literally change. Gratitude provides additional advantages for your health. For instance, those who express thankfulness through writing have been reported to have better quality sleep and lower blood pressure.
🍂When Gratitude Isn't Enough🍂
A gratitude practice can be impactful, but you may find that you need more-immediate support for your mental health. Especially in the face of prolonged stress; the threats to our communities near and far; the impact of antisemitism and Islamophobia, racism and anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric on individuals and the community; the grind of injustice in the world...if you are struggling, you are not alone. There are people who can help. If you’re not sure where to start, you are always welcome to strategize with us in Student Affairs. For other places where you can connect with confidential support for mental health, we suggest:
